Foundation Jewellers presents The Poised Nyonya, a representation of the young Peranakan lady of yesteryear. Designed in a way to bring the “invisible” young nyonya into visibility, our motif aims to imagine the as-yet unmarried Nyonya practicing with a diamond-decorated Chinese folding fan, slowly growing in grace and wisdom. While the nyonya was historically trapped behind the confining doors of the household before they were married, Foundation Jewellers wishes to metaphorically liberate the young nyonya and shine a light into the sometimes murky history of the Peranakan tradition and culture.
